Budget 2025: Nearly $7M invested in infrastructures

GRAND FALLS, December 18, 2023 - The Council of the Grand Falls Regional Municipality adopts its operating budgets for 2025, which total $23.1 million, including $20.1 million in the general fund and $2.9 million in the water and sewer fund.

The rates set for 2025 are based on a harmonization strategy, which ultimately aims to introduce four (4) tax rates by 2029 for the entire municipality, considering the proximity of the various neighbourhoods to common and shared services. It is with this in mind that property tax increases vary according to the sector of residence.

*For all LSDs, an amount of $0.4115 is collected by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

“In the coming year, we must make major investments, and we sincerely believe, as a municipal council, that maintaining our various infrastructures and services must be a shared and equitable responsibility assumed by all residents of the municipality. This balanced budget will enable us to offer a prosperous living environment, while fulfilling our mission of providing innovative services adapted to the community”, shared the Mayor of the Grand Falls Regional Municipality.

The Municipality has also standardized water and sewer service charges on its territory.  The annual bill will therefore be $735, representing an increase of $105 for the Drummond, Grand Falls North and South neighbourhoods, and $75 for the Saint-André neighbourhood.

This operating budget is based on responsible choices guided by the Municipality's 2023-2027 strategic objectives, which are reflected in these main investments in 2025 totalling nearly $7 million:

·       $ 970,000 - Municipal operations equipment

·       $ 810,000 - Sports, recreational and tourism infrastructure

·       1.2 million $ - Specialized equipment - Police Force

·       1.45 million $ - Fire trucks - Drummond and Saint-André brigades

·       2.4 million $ - Water tanks – Grand Falls & Saint-André neighbourhoods
