GRAND FALLS, September 16th, 2023 – The Grand Falls Regional Municipality inaugurated its new fire station in the Grand Falls district today at an open house event.
Long-awaited and built at a cost of $7 million financed solely by the municipality, the new fire station at 245 rue Portage replaces the old station on Court Street, which was built in the 1950s and expanded in 1974.
"The construction of this new fire station was more than necessary, in order to offer our volunteer firefighters a safe place to work and respond adequately to emergency calls in our community", mentioned the Mayor of the Grand Falls Regional Municipality, Bertrand Beaulieu.
The building, whose construction began in August 2021 and was completed in winter 2023, has a total surface area of 1,529 square meters. It is spread over two floors and has five garage doors to accommodate all the fire safety intervention trucks as well as the equipment used to intervene during rescues.
"This beautiful new building is not only designed to adapt to these new realities, but also to grow with our community and provide the flexibility to adapt to ever-changing technologies and methods. We are extremely proud of the men and women of the municipal fire department and are delighted that they have a facility that reflects the professionalism and dedication they demonstrate every day," shared Mayor Beaulieu.
During the open house, attendees had the opportunity to discover the new facilities, accompanied by members of the municipal fire department.
