GRAND FALLS, December 9, 2024 - This holiday season, the Grand Falls Police Force would like to remind drivers to celebrate responsibly and be cautious on our roads.
Over the next few weeks, the Police Force will be extending its interventions targeting drivers impaired by alcohol and/or drugs throughout its territory. The watchword will be zero tolerance.
“Road safety is a responsibility we all share. During the holiday season, we want everyone to be able to reach their loved ones safely, and we're asking people in the community to drive sober and plan their safe return home,” shared Rick Blouin, Chief of the Grand Falls Police Force.
The Force is working hard to counter-impaired driving, and even harder during the holiday season. So far this year, members have responded to 17 calls related to driving under the influence.
It should be noted that some myths circulating about the possibility of regaining more quickly one’s ability to drive in certain circumstances, and the practice of estimating one's own alcohol level before getting behind the wheel, present significant risks and should therefore be proscribed. The effect of a single consumption should not be underestimated in any way and that only time can dissipate the effects associated with alcohol or drug use.
If you're going to drink or use cannabis, plan your trip before you leave. You can use a designated driver, cab or carpool to get home safely. This holiday season let's all do our part to keep our roads and our community safe.
If you suspect someone of impaired driving, call 9-1-1.
